Here Is The News #14

Here is the News

Blogland Brilliance

Katie's having a fab giveaway to celebrate getting to 100 followers (but she really should have so many more than that so hop to it and follow her if you don't already).

Sophie's organised a brilliant fashion show at the Eden Project in Cornwall as a fundraiser for a very important charity, People and Gardens - an inspiring place where people with learning difficulties can get involved and develop their skills. If you're in the Cornwall area on the 22nd November, you should definitely go!

Samantha shared her love of all things aviation with some great pictures and photos.

Michelle's soggy doggies on a beach. 'Nuff said (also #NotAEuphemism).

Go see Danielle's stunning pictures of autumn (although I'll warn you now, there are some creepy crawly shots in there).

Rosie visited the Blue Lagoon in Iceland when she had her holibobs there - it's one of my favourite places but when I went I didn't really manage to get any decent pictures; Rosie did though!

Angela went to London a while back and managed to see a fair few of the Book Benches. I didn't get to see any of them, boo hiss, so I'm living vicariously through everyone else's pictures.

Juliet is brilliant at doing Halloween make-up and has some excellent tutorials ready for the big day at the end of the month.

And lastly (no, it's not too early) Char is organising a Bloggers Secret Santa swap - pop over and sign up, the more the merrier!

All the cakes...(and a crumble!)

Samantha made some chocolate on chocolate Happy Wednesday Chocolately Scrumptious Mars Bar Cupcakes (Best name ever. Fact.)

Sophie put together a delicious Caramel Mocha Cake for her sister's birthday - loving the swirls on the topping!

Claire made a Lemon Sherbet Cake for her local Clandestine Cake Club - and the recipe looks amazing, like a twisted version of a lemon drizzle cake!

And for pudding, Alice made a Peach and Blueberry Crumble all for herself - and why not?

Exciting Events

Saturday 11th sees the October instalment of Jane's photo an hour challenge. I'll be joining in on Instagram and then posting a round-up next week. Feel free to snap along using the hashtag #photoanhour!

Interesting Info

Lots of trendy offices on the Beeb's website today, asking is your office as trendy as this?
Umm, nope would be the answer for me.

Do you know your soggy bottoms? Test your GBBO knowledge with the BBC's quiz
(I got a not very good 3 out of 7).

A bit of Ordance Survey Map love? Yes, yes, yes!

Life Lessons

It might be boring (and also seemingly unnecessary under the age of ooh, I don't know, 70?) but...
October is Free Wills Month.
Now unfortunately unless you're over 55 you can't actually get one for free but Martin Lewis has several links to get wills a little bit more cheaply. I don't know whether everyone knows this or not (we have several unmarried friends who don't) but in England and Wales, if you're unmarried (even with children) and you die without a will, your other half gets nothing. Nada. Zilch. Nowt.
I think the law is wrong for not recognising people in relationships but just not married but sadly, that's the way it is. So yup, getting a will (especially if you're unmarried) is a good thing.

Blogs I've followed this week...

Tea in Your Twenties (thanks to a recommendation from New Girl in Toon)

Water Painted Dreams

Daydreams of Summertime

Two 99 Twelve (thanks to a tip-off from Tea with Miss Beatrix)

This week's Carnivals...

Take place on Saturday evening in Castle Cary, Somerset (a smallish one), Exmouth, Devon (a smallish one) and Chard, Somerset (a biggish one).

What's new with you?

  1. Thanks lovely!

My office is definitely not that trendy.

I really need to get a proper will sorted. At the moment my will consists of a post-it that says "My friend Sam gets my nice coat.". And I've lost the post-it. xxx
