Little Green Apples

Our back garden contains a very mature Bramley apple tree. Last year the late frost managed to kill off any hope of a large crop of decent apples but this year the tree has exploded with apples everywhere.

I've already given away lots to different family members and some friends at work but we've still got thousands left (seriously, if anyone wants to pop round, I'll put together a bag for you!)

On my apple recipe list I've got:
Apple Pie
Apple Crumble
Dorset Apple Cake
Blackberry and Apple Pie/Crumble/Cake
Raspberry and Apple Pie/Crumble/Cake
Blackberry and Apple Jam
A variety of chutneys which include apples

Anyone got any more unusual apple food ideas?

    1. Crumble is fab, isn't it, and so easy to make! I do like apple sauce, I'll pop that on my list, thank you! :-) x

  2. One of our most decadent apple recipes is tarte tatin - apples cooked in lots and lots of gooey caramel with a puff pastry crust. Mmmm mmmm!

  3. Ooh, lucky you! We have a greengage tree in our garden but it's been a long time since we got anything off it!

    1. I don't think I've actually ever tasted a greengage, am I right in thinking they're a kind of plum? Think I might have heard that somewhere but I could be wrong. :-) x

  4. Not usual, but you could make jars of applesauce. I'm a veggie, but I hear it's good with pork! Or over ice-cream :) xx

    1. I think I'm definitely putting apple sauce on the list, I've never made it before so this autumn will be the chance to try it! :-) xx

  5. I was going to say applesauce, too. So many American recipes call for unsweetened applesauce which is a pig to find in British shops.

Or...caramelise wedges of apples, let cool, puree then ripple through either vanilla or cinnamon ice-cream when it's just finished churning.

    1. Lots of great minds definitely think alike - so many people have suggested apple sauce!

I like the caramelised apple ice cream idea, I keep meaning to try making my own ice cream but never get round to it, but the apple idea sounds really tasty! :-) x

  6. Oh you are making me miss apple trees and orchards. I grew up in upstate New York and remember how much I enjoyed going to orchards. Here in Texas though, there aren't any that I know of, not remotely near me at least.

    1. Oh, that's a shame! You'll have to make sure you plan your holidays to involve somewhere that has an orchard :-) x

  7. We just foraged some apples and blackberries today and made a crumble (my fave). I would make some apple jelly to put with sausages, roast pork, cheese & biscuits etc. You could even make apple sauce and freeze it so you bring it out when you're having sunday dinner!
