Meal Plan Monday: 5th September 2016

Linking up with Dee's 'Meal Plan Monday'

This is what the week looks like food-wise...

Monday
Breakfast - A slice of cheesy spinach puff pastry tart (which I made on Sunday).
Lunch - Crumpets
Dinner - Sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style (from The Hairy Bikers 'Mums Know Best cookbook) with some chips on the side.

Tuesday
Breakfast - Banana wrap (a quick recipe I spotted on a baby led weaning forum on Facebook); spread a tortilla wrap with something sweet like Nutella (we used Lotus biscuit spread as it's dairy-free) and use it to wrap up a peeled banana. Cut into slices, stick under the grill for 30 seconds or so and then enjoy!
Lunch - Bread rolls with cheese and watermelon slices (#teething) for afters.
Dinner - Beef escalopes with kale mash, loads of veg and creamy gravy (loosely based on this recipe).

Wednesday
Breakfast - Carrot muffins (homemade a few weeks ago and in the freezer).
Lunch - Pizza muffins (based on a recipe from Gill Rapley's Baby Led Weaning Cookbook).
Dinner - Parsley-crumbed beef escalopes (we have a pack of 4 hence the two nights the same!) based on this recipe and served with chips, onion rings and tomato salsa.

Thursday
Breakfast - Cereal and a banana.
Lunch - We're heading out to Greenbank Pool (a 1930's lido 45 mins away) so we'll try and pick up some food out and about.
Dinner - Andrew's going to join us after work and then we'll probably go to Wetherspoons as they have a good dairy-free menu.

Friday
Breakfast - Andrew's having the day off work so we can have a family day trip to Weymouth; breakfast will be a fry up!
Lunch - Out and about in Weymouth somewhere.
Dinner - Same as above.

Saturday
Breakfast - Bacon and eggs kedgeree-style.
Lunch - Crumpets.
Dinner - Spanish chicken paella (from The Allergy-free Family Cookbook).

Sunday
Breakfast - Sausage and roasted onion sandwich.
Lunch - Crumpets (again - we seem to have a glut of them in the freezer and I kind of need to defrost it soon!)
Dinner - Chicken and veg kebabs (from The Allergy-free Family Cookbook).

Meal Plan Monday: 8th August 2016

Linking up with Dee's 'Meal Plan Monday'

This is what the week looks like food-wise...

Monday - Breakfast of rice crackers, dairy-free cream cheese and low salt ham for both me and Lily. We're then off out for a picnic with NCT friends and I'm going to pop into Marks & Spencer to see what nibbles I can find. Dinner will be leftover picnic bits and a shared bag of chips!

Tuesday - We're going to try some dairy-free yogurt for breakfast, teamed up with slices of apple as dippers. Lunch I'm not sure about, we might have a baked potato or we might see what bits there are in the freezer. For dinner, I'm going to attempt to make pizza using a recipe from Gill Rapley's Baby Led Weaning Cookbook.

Wednesday - I'm a member of a few baby led weaning groups on Facebook and someone recommended mashing bananas with porridge oats and then baking them to make super quick and easy flapjacks so I thought I'd give that a go for breakfast. Lunch is going to be picnic food as we're heading into my workplace for their annual outdoors get-together. In the evening we're visiting Carter's Steam Fair in Bath so we'll probably get something there.

Thursday - We're going to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta today so breakfast will just be some toast. The rest of the day will be whatever we find out and about!

Friday - I'd like to try and make some savoury breakfast muffins but I'll have to see if I get time. In the afternoon, we're heading back into Bath to visit the vintage fair with my mum, dad and brother so dinner might be at the fair or we might find a pub.

Saturday - We'll probably just have some cereal as we're going to have our main meal lunchtime (a pasta with veg dish) - we're spending the late afternoon and evening at Carter's so will grab some food out.

Sunday - Will be pretty much the same as Saturday!

Meal Plan Monday: 25th July 2016

Linking up with Dee's 'Meal Plan Monday'

This is what the week looks like food-wise...

Monday - Some kind of pasta with chorizo and whatever is left in the fridge that we can throw in.

Tuesday - Lily's half birthday is today and my parents are coming round with celebratory pizza!

Wednesday - We're off out to a local vintage vehicle afternoon and evening and Andrew's taking the afternoon off work so we'll either take some sandwiches out for the evening or get some chips.

Thursday - My lovely friend M is cooking us dinner at her house so what we're having is a dairy-free surprise!

Friday - A fairly healthy Leek and Potato Fish Pie.

Saturday - The day we're planning on starting baby led weaning - although I'm well aware she won't actually eat anything for a while (the phrase "food before 1 is just for fun" has been drummed into me). We're going to follow the ideas in Gill Rapley's books and start with sharing our lunch and dinner with Lily. Lunch is going to be sweet potato wedges with some grilled chicken and either broccoli or green beans - healthy for us and healthy for the baby! Dinner is going to be homemade fish fingers, new potatoes and veg.

Sunday - For breakfast, toast with tomato and we might try some dairy-free cheese or sausage as well. Lunch is going to be on the go (so probably some fruit slices) as we're off out having some fancy photos taken. Dinner will be a roast dinner; we haven't decided what meat yet but whatever it is, it'll involve lots of vegetables on the side.

Meal Plan Monday: 18th July 2016

Linking up with Dee's 'Meal Plan Monday'

This is what the week looks like food-wise...

Monday - The remainder of the Fisherman's Pie from Sunday.

Tuesday - Me and Lily are having a picnic at a local lido with a couple of NCT friends in the afternoon so dinner will be whatever is left over!

Wednesday - A cheesy ham and potato grill; a fairly simple recipe involving new potatoes and peas mixed in a cheesy cream sauce topped with ham and mozzarella (and all made with dairy free cheese!).

Thursday - Andrew's mum's birthday is today so we're having a family get-together at a Toby Carvery. Even though we're not trying Lily on solid food until next week, we're hoping that she'll sit nicely in a high chair!

Friday - A recipe for making a meatball sub, taken from a book called 'The Takeaway Secret' which explains how to make all your favourite fast food recipes at home.

Saturday - We're off away for the day and night, taking Andrew's lorry to a local family fun day and then going on ourselves to see Carters Steam Fair in West Wycombe. Breakfast needs to be quick and easy so we'll probably have some bacon sandwiches and then for dinner, we'll find somewhere out and about.

Sunday - Not too far away from where we're staying is a Toby Carvery (I know, I know, twice in one week but I'm still breastfeeding and need the extra calories, that's my excuse, ha) and they do a fairly legendary all-you-can-eat breakfast. After having had that in the morning, I can't imagine we'll need much for dinner so it'll probably just be some crumpets or toast!

Meal Plan Monday: 11th July 2016

Linking up with Dee's 'Meal Plan Monday'

This is what this week looks like food-wise...

Monday - The remainder of the shepherd's pie from Sunday night.

Tuesday - A recipe called Aussie Pie (which is from 'Nora's Dinners' cookbook - the dinner lady from Jamie Oliver's series from years ago). It's basically egg and potato pie with cheese sauce but we often add a bit of ham and spring onion to it; we'll be having half of it on Tuesday and half on Wednesday.

Wednesday - The other half of the Aussie Pie.

Thursday - A recipe called Spicy Hotpot (taken from a magazine) which is a kind of chorizo and sausage goulash topped with slices of garlic bread - very tasty!

Friday - Creamy Sweet Potato, Bacon and Thyme Pasta which is from a book called Dairy-Free Delicious by Katy Salter.

Saturday - We're hoping to head out to the Somerset Steam and Country Show in Langport so we'll try and get something out and about.

Sunday - A Fisherman's Pie which we'll eat half of on Sunday night and the other half on Monday!

Meal Plan Monday: 4th July 2016

As well as Sarah and Louise's 'This Little Big Life' link-up, another link-up I thought I'd join in with is the lovely Dee's 'Meal Plan Monday' idea.

I was organised enough in the last few months of pregnancy last year to stockpile some meals in the freezer; one of my best friends also very kindly made us some as well and we ended up with (I think) about a month's worth of meals. That meant we didn't need to do much meal planning in the early days but then when we found out Lily was allergic to dairy we had to rethink what we were eating and it all seemed very ad-hoc.

Now she's that little bit older (and able to occupy herself for more than 30 seconds), I have the time to sit down and plan meals. We're also hoping to do baby-led weaning when she's 6 months old at the end of July (how did that happen?) so I need to start thinking about what we're going to eat as a family.

So now is a good time to start joining in with Dee's link-up :-)

Monday - There's half a chorizo sausage in the fridge which needs using up and we also seem to have a glut of eggs so chorizo omelette it is. We'll probably chuck in some spring onions and cheese (dairy-free stuff of course) and I reckon there's some curly fries lurking in the freezer somewhere to go with it.

Tuesday - Sweet potato cottage pie, a recipe from a Rosemary Conley book from years ago. I can't find the exact recipe online but this one from Good to Know looks just as good.

Wednesday - A BBC Good Food recipe, Sticky Apple, Sausages and Bacon which we'll pair with some new potatoes or mash. I'm going to cook this for four people and we'll have half on Wednesday and half on Thursday.

Thursday - The remainder of the previous night's dinner.

Friday - A back to basics pasta bake, made with pasta sauce, spam, pasta and whatever suitable veg I have left in the fridge. Tesco do a very tasty dairy-free garlic bread as well so we'll have that too. Same as Wednesday, I'm going to cook it for 4 people and have the other half on Saturday.

Saturday - It's our local town's annual summer fayre day so if it's not raining, we'll probably take a wander round the stalls. Last year, one of the local churches were running a tea room with homemade cakes; it's unlikely they'll have any dairy-free ones but as a back-up plan, there's a café in town that does dairy-free chocolate cake and banana loaf. Dinner will be the other half of the pasta bake.

Sunday - A slightly unusual shepherd's pie recipe which uses stuffing mix in the mash topping. It was from an old book I found in the library about 10 years ago so I've no idea where it's from, sorry!
