Day 7 - Pets

Day 7 of rosalilium’s 'blog every day in May' challenge
Pets
(Tell us about your pets, past and/or present)

This is the one post where I don't personally have anything to write about. No, really, I don't.

The reason is...I have never ever (in all 30 years) had a pet.

As a child we went on too many camping holidays and days out and as an adult, although we've talked about getting a dog, neither of us think we would actually have the time to care for our own little woofer.

My father-in-law however, as a child, had one very unusual pet.

Monkey

This was Monkey!
(note the woolly jumper - needed for the British climate!)

He was brought back from Algeria in the late 1940's by my father-in-law's Uncle who worked for the airline, BOAC and travelled across the World in the 40's and 50's.

Father-in-law would have been about 7 or 8 years old when he suddenly found he had a mischievous playmate to look after!

Monkey stayed with the family for several enjoyable years before going to a new home at a boys school in Clifton, Bristol.

Anyone else have any unusual pets?

  1. Oh how interesting, a monkey! I think my most unusual pet would be my tropical oscar fish. Not unusual in itself, but it did eat sausages! Then there was the time I started a ladybird farm... only that day I couldn't find any ladybirds so I took a lunchbox of grass to school and told everyone they were in there... somewhere. Lastly there was the hamster who went on a sleepover to the dry cleaner's in my dad's jacket pocket by accident, but thankfully was returned home from his adventures unharmed. x

  2. That definately sounds like one unusual fish!

That's brilliant about the ladybird farm - very quick thinking :-)

Glad the hamster returned safely - bet the person doing the dry cleaning had a bit of a shock! x
