Here Is The News #6

Here is the News

Blogland Brilliance

The other half of Monday's Blog Hop, the absolutely lovely Katie from Hook Line and Sink Her has some excellent blog hop answers.

Rachel from Dear Ms Leigh shows us round her fabulous record room in her new house.

Chelsea celebrated her second wedding anniversary last week - pop over and wish the lovely lady a big congratulations :-)

Lily's workplace was gate-crashed last week by the legendary Bristol pie-makers Pieminister which meant...free pies! If you fill in the form on Pieminister's website they might just come to your workplace as well.

Exciting Events

We're off with the lorry to our local agricultural show on Sunday - the Mid Somerset Show. It's a fantastic event; free entry, a whole host of cheese/vegetable/cake type competitions, animal displays and plenty of free bits of food.

If we weren't at that show though, I quite like the look of the Lacock at War Show!

Also Jane's photo an hour challenge for August falls this on Saturday. I'll be instagramming and tweeting my pictures all day if you fancy following along and if you fancy joining in, great! Just use the hashtag #photoanhour

Interesting Info

It might just be another false alarm but apparently Edinburgh panda Tian Tian is finally pregnant (and it's probably a bit weird but us infertiles have a strange kind of affinity with Tian Tian so I'm quite pleased for her!)

Bath's historic Cleveland Pools received a huge boost to their renovation campaign this week. It's Britain's only surviving Georgian Lido and they're actually getting some lottery cash to restore them to their former glory - I think that's excellent news!

Life Lessons

Teach yourself all about regional accents and dialects with the British Library (down 'ere, we call a bread roll a 'roll' or 'bun' and a 'batch' is a slag heap from the Somerset coalfields)

And I'm probably way behind everyone else with this but did you know you can read back issues of magazines for free with Issuu? Some of them are just previews but if you hunt a little bit, there's quite a few whole issues on there for free. So far I've spotted Oh Comely, The Simple Things, various Mollie Makes and lots of home and house magazines. I know, I know, I'm sure everyone already knows about this but I got ever so excited when I realised what was on there!

Have you spotted anything interesting this week?

  1. I don't think you're the last person to discover the back-issue thing! I had absolutely no idea! I am absolutely loving The Simple Things just now (aside from the two page feature on spiders that I couldn't rip out of the digital edition), Thanks so much, Louisa!

    1. I know, it's dangerous though, I've already spent far too much time on there just flicking through all sorts! :-) xx

    1. I stumbled across that site through some of our Chinese students at work - they found it fascinating and then I shared it round my office and we all found it fascinating! :-) xx

  3. I didn't know about Issuu and that sounds amazing! Thank you for linking to my post and the sweet things you said :) How exciting for Tian Tian; we were very sad we didn't get to see her on our spontaneous trip to Edinburgh Zoo when we visited the city last year. xxx
