An A-Z of Me - B

A-Z of Me - B

And on to the letter 'B'...

Birds - it's funny really, my parents are huge bird fans dragging me round every possible bird-watching site in the UK when I was a kid. I used to get so bored with it all but now (possibly turning into my mother) I'm not so clued up on all the different varieties but I do like watching them.

Butlins - ahh, the mythical magical fun palace I always dreamed of as a kid. We never ever went there see, so in my mind it was this amazing holiday park, a huge forbidden playground of everything a child could want. At University studying tourism as well, I researched the Billy Butlin story and the John Hinde photographs and became fascinated with the history of it all, the photographs making it look so unreal. I finally got my chance to go to Butlins when I was 24, a few months after we got married and it actually did live up to my expectations!

Bedding - Andrew says I have too much. I say nay. No girl can ever have too many duvet covers, right? Especially when Asda sell gorgeous sets for less than £15!

Blood Donation - One of my New Years resolutions back in 2000 just after I'd turned 18 was to become a blood donor. I only managed to go a couple of times before I went off to Uni and then it became too much hassle to find the sessions up north (I know, it's not really an excuse). Then I was on anti-biotics for a couple of years (meaning I couldn't donate), then moved house and every local session seemed to be when I had to work late, then we started trying for a duckling (again, you're not allowed to donate) and now being on and off various IVF drugs, I'm still not allowed to donate.
So basically I have a donor card that still carries my maiden name, almost 15 years of excuses and a huge amount of enthusiasm for a time in the future when I can actually donate.
I know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that jazz...

Baking - fairly obvious this one, I like making cakes.
If you ever pop round for a cuppa, I'll usually have a slice waiting for you.

Books - kind of goes without saying but yep, I do like books. Doesn't matter whether they're old or new, reading them, finding new authors or stories, learning from them and the smell of them are all fab. Working in a library several years ago, we used to get a couple of boxes of new books delivered to us from the Library HQ every week; unpacking those boxes was just bliss!

Bones - no picture for this one but just a little anecdote that I have broked both wrists during my life. Thankfully not at the same time (my left one when I was 10 and my right one when I was 15) but fingers crossed that I've had my fair share of broken bones now!

What 'B' things sum you up?

  1. I really love this A-Z series, I might borrow your idea if you don't mind?

My main B would be books... not sure what else, though, will have to have a think.

    1. Yeah, go for it! I waited a few weeks until I'd thought of at least one thing for almost all the letters before doing it - although I'm still struggling for Q, X, Y and Z though! :-) x

  2. I've only managed to give blood a few times too :( I keep not having enough iron, I think I'm on my final strike now!
My B would have to be Bed. I love my bed :) x

    1. I know, it's so disheartening when you want to give blood and are then told you can't, you feel like such a failure! Bed is a good one for B, you can't beat snuggling up in a comfy bed :-) xx

  3. I'm going to get cracking with an a to z of me too I think, although my B will look a bit similar to yours! Books, bedding, (attempted) baking...but no bones or birds for me.
And obviously a Betty in there somewhere!

  4. A girl can NEVER have too much bedding. Cakes and books are definitely on my favourite things list too. My B would also involve Batman. xxx
