Edinburgh Festival Fun and Frolics

So...Edinburgh – yay!

Home to the Scottish Parliament, a castle set on a volcano, a never-quite-finished tram scheme and also several lovely bloggers – notably Kirsty from Indigo Buttons and Juliet from Ever So Juliet.
(I didn’t actually see any of them though, I think if I had seen one of them, it would have been a bit like spotting your favourite celebrity!)

The inside of the Pleasance Dome - how fab is that?

A trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is one of my highlights of the year and this year was just as fab as always – the weather stayed fairly decent, almost all the shows we saw were excellent and we ate far too much food
(that’s another story though, for another blog post..)
Portobello Beach
Our bus journey into town each day took us alongside Portobello Beach

Festival show highlights included:
Comedians Josh Widdicombe, Seann Walsh, Andrew Maxwell, Marcus Brigstocke and Mark Thomas – all well worth seeing if their tours come anywhere nearby. Josh Widdicombe in particular, his story about being marooned at Exeter St Davids train station had us crying with laughter for ages.
Also Rick Wakeman (from 1970’s prog rock band, Yes) – an hour of grumpy old Rick making jokes and playing the piano, and playing beautifully, the sort of music you could sit and listen to for hours.
Theatre shows, Pip Utton’s Churchill and Making News – both great performances, excellent storylines and worth seeing again.
And lastly The Horne Section – great fun, great music and lots of laughs, a perfect way to end an evening!

James Morton (from Great British Bake Off 2012) - The Horne Section

I took far too many photos whilst up North, so I apologise for the rather photo heavy post.
Here’s some of the (many) things I papped at the Fringe...

Spotted on the street - Marcus Brigstocke (on Nicolson Street, hobbling), Phil Jupitus and Deborah Frances-White (in Bristo Square, discussing that evening's show, 'Voices in Your Head'), Milton Jones (twice, firstly outside the Underbelly and secondly outside Assembly Hall) and Zoe Lyons (in Hill Place, deep in discussion with two friends).

We might be back home now but I'm keeping the Fringe spirit alive by enjoying the lovely Ever So Juliet's weekly Fringe round-ups!
